why-ads

Why do we need to show advertisements?

October 11th, 2016

TL;DR: We want to offer you something for free that is not free for us.

In a perfect world, there would be no ads.

Here at ReviewMeta.com, we’d love to provide a service to our users that is completely free of any advertisements at all; but that’s just not feasible.  Unless we get an independently wealthy donor who is feeling altruistic enough to pay our bills, we need to recoup some of the server costs by displaying a few ads.

It’s not free for us to run ReviewMeta.com

We have made a massive investment of time and money to create this product and continue to contribute resources to the project every single day.  We believe that everyone has a right to view our information, so that’s why we don’t hide it behind a paywall or require a paid subscription.

We want to give our visitors a no-ad option.

We’re kicking around a few ideas to give our visitors an option to hide the ads on our site.  It might just be as simple as a “hide this ad” button, or maybe we’ll require you to take a few steps to unlock this feature, such as following us on Twitter, subscribing to our newsletter, Youtube channel, liking us on FB or making a small donation.  We haven’t exactly figured it out yet and we will be experimenting in the coming weeks/months.

Questions?  Comments?

We’d love to hear your thoughts.  You can reach out at ReviewMeta.com/contact

I don’t know if individual pages having tip buttons would be helpful, in addition to the ads.

    • This is a possibility – those who feel obliged can contribute but the information is still available for all to see.
